In an apparent bid to cut costs, the Kolkata Knight Riders team management today "politely" asked five of its players, who are yet to feature in the side's 14-member squad in any match, to leave the team hotel.
The players are Ranadeb Bose, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sourasish Lahiri, Yashpal Singh and Hokkaido. One of the players said they were "politely given the option of either staying at the team hotel or going home."
"It was clear what the team management wants. Apparently coach John Buchannon feels that he has found his right combination and had no need for fringe players," one of the players said.
Asked about the learning experience, one of the player said, there was not much to learn. You learn only when you play and if you were not given the option, you don't learn. Asked about the tips and guidance from coach John Buchannon, the player said, he was always busy and was not approachable. He was busy with the experienced and senior players who are playing in the game, which is right.
The disappointed lads had to vacate the hotel and start focusing on the domestic games and try for an opportunity to get into the Indian squad.
What thought to be morale boosting and experience providing event, it turned out to be morale disaster for few!
